Dwight Frye:
Why Not? He Did It On Broadway!

|
|
Dwight Frye's career
began in the theater. He became famous as a character actor who could
take on many different kinds of roles, especially comedy. So it was no
surprise that he would return to his theater roots on the silver screen. In the James Cagney musical (bet you
never thought you would hear Cagney and musical in the same sentence) Something
to Sing About, Dwight Frye plays the effeminate makeup artist Mr.
Easton. Easton has to make James
Cagney look like a movie star.
Luckily, he has the help of Mr. Daviani of Wardrobe and Mr. Farney the
Dialogue Coach. I affectionately
refer to them as “The Bitch Squad.” Sidenote: I respect James Cagney as an actor but the man can’t sing
worth beans. He can dance though
I will give him that. As Mr. Easton, Dwight has some of
the best and most bizarre lines.
“The hairline, gracious, it
belongs on an entirely different face, Mr. Regan.” “When
I look at that hairline I could almost cry.” Is he just a little obsessed
about hair in this movie or what?
Anyway, here are some more pictures. The
Monocle I know most of the pictures look
similar, but Dwight really isn’t in as much of the movie as I would have
liked. I also did not think
people really wanted to see the random scenes where he's just
background. That’s what you rent
the movie for.; ) Back to Dwight
